GP - Mixed Billing | DPA | MM1 | South Canberra ACT

GP-21
  • AUD $250,000 – $500,000 per year
  • Australia, Australian Capital Territory
  • Permanent

A well-established mixed-billing family practice in South Canberra is looking to welcome up to two UK-trained GPs over the next two years. The practice has a genuinely distinctive offer for GPs thinking long-term: an equity pathway in the practice for the right candidate after 12 months of unsupervised practice — a rare opportunity for UK GPs wanting to build real ownership in their career rather than just swap one employer for another.

Location & registration status

  • Suburb: South Canberra ACT
  • DPA status: DPA-approved (Medicare provider number available from day one)
  • MMM classification: MM1

This clinic sits in Canberra's Tuggeranong Valley, around 20 minutes from the city centre. Canberra consistently ranks among Australia's most liveable cities — excellent schools, short commutes, strong public services, and a genuine outdoor lifestyle with the Snowy Mountains, the NSW south coast, and Sydney all within a few hours' drive. Property prices are meaningfully more affordable than Sydney, and Canberra's planned design means you're never far from green space, good infrastructure, or the amenities of a capital city (without the congestion).

About the practice

The clinic is independently owned and run by a GP Fellow with a long career in both international and Australian primary care. The current team includes two GPs, supported by a friendly clinical and administrative team, and the practice has strong patient demand for women's health services — the reason the practice is growing the team over the next two years.

The practice operates a unique on-site Iron Infusion Clinic — a genuine point of difference that broadens the clinical scope available to incoming GPs and adds a meaningful procedural component to the role for anyone interested.

Clinic hours are Monday to Friday plus Saturday mornings until 2pm (closed Sundays). Consulting pace typically sits around 4–5 patients per hour.

Package & earnings

  • Starting service fee of 30%, reducing to 28% after completing supervision, and to 25% after 3 years
  • AUD $160/hr income guarantee for the first 8–12 weeks while you build your patient base
  • Relocation allowance of AUD $5,000
  • Equity pathway: for the right candidate, the practice is open to offering a 10% stake in the practice after 12 months of unsupervised practice, with service fee renegotiated as part of the equity arrangement
  • Full-time or part-time considered

Billing model

Mixed billing — a blend of private fees and bulk billing across the patient base.

Visa & AHPRA support

Full end-to-end support through AHPRA registration (Specialist or Expedited Specialist Pathway depending on your credentials) and 482 visa sponsorship, with a clear PR pathway. On-site supervision is available for ESP candidates, provided by the practice owner directly. Given this is a smaller independent practice, the relocation and registration process is something we handle fully on the practice's behalf — you get the personal environment of a small clinic with the same pathway support you'd expect from a large group.

Who we're looking for

  • UK-trained GP with MRCGP (or working toward CCT — we can advise on timing)
  • Interest in women's health and general family medicine
  • Procedural interest welcomed given the on-site Iron Infusion Clinic
  • Long-term mindset — the equity pathway makes this particularly suited to GPs looking to put down roots rather than move on after a short contract
  • Open to relocating to Canberra within roughly a 6-month timeframe
  • Open to community-focused primary care in a smaller, independently-run practice

Next steps

Send your CV to aus@bdiresourcing.com or get in touch to schedule a call with our team — we'll talk through the role, the AHPRA pathway, visa options, and what life actually looks like once you're here.

Even if you're still a year or two away from relocating, it's worth an early conversation — the AHPRA and visa process takes time to do properly, and equity-pathway roles reward candidates who plan the move carefully.
