GP - Mixed Billing | DPA | MM1 | NSW (Canberra Region)

GP-12
  • AUD $250,000 – $500,000 per year
  • Australia, New South Wales
  • Permanent

A long-established mixed-billing super clinic just over the ACT border from Canberra is looking to welcome two UK-trained GPs to its team. With a 60+ year history in the region, around 20 GPs under one roof, and a patient base of approximately 50,000, this is one of the larger and more comprehensive privately-owned medical centres in the Canberra region — and an unusually full-scope role for a GP who wants variety.

Location & registration status

  • Suburb: Canberra Suburb, NSW
  • DPA status: DPA-approved (Medicare provider number available from day one)
  • MMM classification: MM1

This suburb sits on Canberra's eastern edge, technically in NSW but fully integrated into the Canberra metro area. The area offers a strong outdoors lifestyle — parks, reserves, a nearby golf course, and easy access to the Snowy Mountains, the NSW south coast, and Sydney within a few hours' drive. Some GPs at the practice live locally; others commute around 30 minutes from central Canberra. Canberra itself consistently ranks among Australia's most liveable cities: excellent schools, short commutes, strong public services, and property meaningfully more affordable than Sydney.

About the practice

The clinic has been caring for Canberra residents since the late 1950s, and is the largest privately-owned medical facility in the region. The team includes around 20 GPs (not all full-time) and 4 partners, supported by on-site pathology, a fully equipped theatre, a four-bed nurse station, allied health, visiting specialists, and a full workplace/travel medicine offering.

The clinical scope is genuinely broad: chronic disease, young families, women's health, skin, obstetrics (two GPs currently provide obstetric care with around 200–300 deliveries per year), and elderly care. The practice actively supports GPs who want to develop sub-specialty interests, particularly in child health, ADHD, menopause, obstetrics, skin and geriatrics.

Consulting pace typically sits around 5 patients per hour, with new starters beginning at 4 per hour to settle in. The culture is friendly and relaxed, with good facilities, large waiting areas, and quarterly social events (including the much-loved "Christmas in July").

Package & earnings

  • 65/35 to 70/30 billing split in your favour (service fee 30–35%)
  • Estimated earnings around AUD $400,000 per year based on 6–8 sessions
  • Guaranteed hourly rate available while you build up your patient base
  • New starters begin at 4 patients per hour, moving to ~5 per hour as you settle
  • Full-time or part-time considered

Billing model

Mixed billing — predominantly bulk billed, with private fees for after-hours consultations and medical certificates.

Visa & AHPRA support

Full end-to-end support through AHPRA registration (Specialist or Expedited Specialist Pathway depending on your credentials) and visa sponsorship — typically the 482 or Skills in Demand visa, with a clear PR pathway. Our team will handle the heavy lifting on paperwork, timelines, and ECFMG/EPIC verification where needed.

Who we're looking for

  • UK-trained GP with MRCGP (or working toward CCT — we can advise on timing)
  • Genuine interest in broad-scope general practice — the patient mix here is unusually varied
  • Sub-specialty interests in child health, ADHD, menopause, obstetrics, skin or geriatrics particularly welcomed
  • GPs with UK obstetric experience highly valued given the practice's active antenatal caseload
  • Open to Canberra-region living and a long-term community role

Next steps

Send your CV to aus@bdiresourcing.com or get in touch to schedule a call with our team — we'll talk through the role, the AHPRA pathway, visa options, and what life actually looks like once you're here.

Even if you're still a year or two away from relocating, it's worth an early conversation — the AHPRA and visa process takes time to do properly.
