GP - Mixed Billing | DPA | MM1 | Edgeworth, Newcastle NSW

GP-24
  • AUD $250,000 – $500,000 per year
  • Australia, New South Wales
  • Permanent

A small, female-led family practice in Newcastle's western suburbs is looking to welcome a UK-trained GP to join its team on a 2-year contract. The current two GPs are consistently at capacity and so this is a genuine "patient demand exceeds GP capacity" role, with a guaranteed full workload from the day you start.

Location & registration status

  • Suburb: Newcastle NSW
  • DPA status: DPA-approved (Medicare provider number available from day one)
  • MMM classification: MM1

This suburb sits in Newcastle's western corridor, around 15km from central Newcastle and just over 2 hours north of Sydney. Newcastle itself is one of Australia's more underrated relocation destinations for UK GPs — a genuine coastal city with world-class beaches, a working harbour, excellent schools, a growing food and arts scene, and property prices meaningfully lower than Sydney. You get city amenities without metropolitan pricing, the Hunter Valley wine region 45 minutes inland, and Sydney close enough for city weekends without the cost of living there. The practice sits in Edgeworth Town Square, a local retail and community hub.

About the practice

The clinic is an independently-owned family practice with a small, female-led clinical team of two GPs currently. Patient demand has outgrown team capacity, which is why the practice is actively recruiting — including being the main priority site within a small group that operates two other practices across NSW.

The current GPs bill around $35,000 over a two-week period (equivalent to $500,000+ per year for a full-time GP once established), with a typical pace of 4 patients per hour and average daily billings around $4,000. Clinical work is broad family medicine, and the practice is open Monday to Friday, 8am–6pm.

Package & earnings

  • 65/35 to 70/30 billing split in your favour (service fee 30–35%, flexibility for the right candidate)
  • AUD $150/hr income guarantee for the first 6–8 weeks while you build your patient base
  • AUD $10,000 relocation grant (likely paid in two instalments via Rural Doctors Network)
  • 2-year contract aligned with 482 visa sponsorship (with scope to extend to 4 years)
  • Current established GPs bill $500,000+ per year full-time
  • Full-time or part-time considered

Billing model

Currently mixed billing, with the practice actively exploring a move to full bulk billing at this site to access the federal bulk billing incentive structure. The billing model will be finalised alongside the incoming GP.

Visa & AHPRA support

Full end-to-end support through AHPRA registration (Specialist or Expedited Specialist Pathway depending on your credentials) and 482 visa sponsorship. Default contract length is 2 years aligned to the initial visa, with scope to extend to 4 years for the right candidate. A clear pathway to PR is available post-contract. Our team will handle the heavy lifting on AHPRA paperwork, timelines, and ECFMG/EPIC verification where needed.

Who we're looking for

  • UK-trained GP with MRCGP (or working toward CCT — we can advise on timing)
  • Comfortable joining a small, independently-run practice rather than a corporate group
  • Open to a 2-year contract commitment (with flexibility to extend)
  • Interest in broad-scope family medicine — no specific sub-specialty required
  • Open to relocating to Newcastle and embracing coastal NSW living

Next steps

Send your CV to aus@bdiresourcing.com or get in touch to schedule a call with our team — we'll talk through the role, the AHPRA pathway, visa options, and what life actually looks like once you're here.

Even if you're still a year or two away from relocating, it's worth an early conversation — the AHPRA and visa process takes time to do properly.
