GP - Bulk Billing | DPA | MM5 | Atherton Tablelands QLD
- AUD $250,000 – $400,000 per year
- Australia, Queensland
- Permanent
A rural bulk-billing practice in Far North Queensland is looking to welcome a UK-trained GP to the team. This is a genuine rural generalist role — small, tight-knit community, varied clinical work, and the kind of patient relationships that get lost in big-city practice. The clinic is part of a respected not-for-profit group supporting rural healthcare across Queensland.
Location & registration status
- Suburb: Atherton Tablelands
- DPA status: DPA-approved (Medicare provider number available from day one)
- MMM classification: MM5
This is a rural town of around 1,500–2,000 residents on the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland, roughly 75 miles southwest of Cairns. The nearest hospital is Atherton, about 40 minutes' drive away. The Tablelands region is known for its cooler climate, rainforest, waterfalls, and genuine rural character — a strong contrast to coastal Queensland and well-suited to GPs who want space, community, and a slower pace. Ravenshoe itself is a small, welcoming town with a reputation for its rural hospitality (and, locally, for holding the highest pub in Queensland). Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef are within an easy drive for weekends.
About the practice
The clinic is part of a not-for-profit group operating 13 practices across rural Queensland, with a clear mission around accessible healthcare in communities that would otherwise struggle for GP coverage. The current team includes two GPs working part-time, supported by a nurse and a healthcare assistant. Clinical services include blood collection, minor excisions, immunisations, and general primary care. The practice uses Best Practice software and averages around 26 patients per day across the current team — demand is high, with appointments typically booked weeks in advance.
A new GP joining the team would start with a reduced patient load and 30-minute appointments to allow proper adjustment to Australian general practice and the rural setting. Supervision is available for Level 3 supervised doctors, making this a strong option for IMGs on the Specialist Pathway who need a supervised position to complete their AHPRA requirements.
Package & earnings
- 70/30 billing split in your favour (service fee 35% for Level 3 supervised doctors)
- Bulk billing incentive of 6.5% paid directly to the GP
- Income guarantee available for 1–3 months (you receive the higher of guarantee or billings)
- Relocation allowance up to AUD $7,500
- Potential local accommodation available on arrival for three months via an existing team connection
Billing model
Bulk billing — straightforward Medicare-based model, no private fee collection.
Visa & AHPRA support
Full end-to-end support through AHPRA registration and visa sponsorship — typically the Skills in Demand visa, with a clear PR pathway. The practice has experience supporting IMGs through supervision requirements. Our team will handle the heavy lifting on paperwork, timelines, and ECFMG/EPIC verification where needed.

Next steps
Send your CV to aus@bdiresourcing.com or get in touch to schedule a call with our team — we'll talk through the role, the AHPRA pathway, visa options, and what life actually looks like once you're here.
Even if you're still a year or two away from relocating, it's worth an early conversation — the AHPRA and visa process takes time to do properly.
