The Opportunity

BDI Resourcing are working with an NHS Trust in South West England to recruit a Consultant Radiologist. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a modern and innovative Radiology department with flexibility to develop a subspecialty interest and contribute to excellent patient care. The Trust is open to radiologists with interests in Interventional Radiology, Breast, Paediatrics, Chest/Cardiac Imaging, MSK, Neuroradiology, or Head & Neck Radiology. You’ll benefit from a highly supportive environment, a bespoke job plan, and access to cutting-edge imaging equipment.

The department is also a strong advocate for CESR aspirants and has a clear track record of helping international radiologists embed into the service with tailored support and guidance towards specialist registration.

Key Duties

  • Deliver diagnostic imaging and reporting across multiple modalities including CT, MRI, Ultrasound, and Plain Film.
  • Participate in the on-call rota (currently 1 in 13, no overnight calls).
  • Attend and contribute to MDTs and clinical governance meetings.
  • Engage in teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.
  • Lead or participate in service improvement, audits, and clinical research.

Department & Equipment

  • Over 220,000 examinations annually for a population of 350,000+
  • Imaging infrastructure includes:
    • 3 x 128-slice CT scanners
    • 2 x 1.5T MRI scanners
    • Digital PACS with voice recognition
    • SPECT CT, DEXA, modern interventional suites and ultrasound facilities
  • Fully integrated breast unit with mammography, VAB, and US capability
  • Siemens CT reference centre with a reputation for service excellence
  • On-call is resident first on-call 5pm–8pm weekdays and 9am–5pm weekends; outsourced overnight

Significant capital investment has recently been secured for a brand-new CT and MRI suite, forming part of a major expansion in diagnostic capacity. This investment reflects the Trust’s commitment to growing its Radiology services and improving access to advanced imaging for patients across the region.

The Hospital

This modern district general hospital in the South West provides acute and specialist services to a population of over 350,000. The Radiology department is fully digital, performing more than 220,000 scans annually, and has recently received major investment to expand its CT and MRI facilities.

The hospital is a Siemens CT reference centre and is known for its innovative and collaborative approach. There is a dedicated breast unit, strong academic links with leading universities, and excellent opportunities for teaching and research. Consultants are supported with shared office space, admin assistance, and flexible job planning.

The Location

This role is based in a thriving town in the South West of England, known for its excellent transport links, green spaces, and growing infrastructure. With a population of around 230,000, the area offers a broad mix of affordable housing, well-regarded schools, and vibrant local amenities - making it ideal for professionals and families alike.

The town boasts a strong local economy and a rich industrial heritage, while its surrounding countryside offers ample opportunity for outdoor leisure, from hiking and cycling to nature reserves. Cultural attractions include museums, galleries, and a well-supported live arts scene. There are also a number of retail and entertainment options, including designer shopping outlets and multi-screen cinemas.

Strategically positioned along the M4 corridor, the area provides direct rail access to London in under an hour and easy road connections to major cities such as Bristol, Oxford, and Reading. Heathrow Airport is also within easy reach, making international travel highly convenient.

Person Specification

  • GMC Specialist Registration in Clinical Radiology (or within 6 months of CCT at interview)
  • FRCR (UK) or equivalent qualification
  • Core radiology skills and a clear interest in at least one subspecialty
  • Strong communication, teaching, and teamworking abilities
  • Demonstrable commitment to clinical governance and ongoing CPD
