Advance Older People’s Mental Health in a Stunning Coastal Region
We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age Psychiatry to join a well-established NHS Health Board in the North West of the UK. The post provides clinical and strategic leadership in older people’s functional and organic mental health services, within a beautiful, community-oriented region.
Main Duties:
- Wards and Clinics: You will provide care across inpatient units (including one functional and one organic ward), outpatient memory clinics, and community settings. Weekly MDT meetings and case conferences are part of the core clinical timetable.
- Patient Group: Elderly patients (65+) with a range of psychiatric disorders, including cognitive and functional presentations.
- Team Structure:
- Functional team: CMHNs, social workers (AMHPs), psychologists, occupational therapists, and team managers.
- Organic team: CMHNs, psychologists, and admin staff.
- On-Call Rota: 1 in 13 rota, covering inpatient and community services with Band 1 intensity.
- Non-Clinical Time: 3 SPAs included for activities such as CPD, teaching, clinical governance, research and service development.
The Hospital:
The Health Board operates a network of acute, community, and mental health facilities. Services include psychiatric intensive care units, liaison psychiatry, rehabilitation, perinatal, and forensic mental health. The mental health directorate is research active, with ties to local universities and access to specialist dementia resources.

Requirements:
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
- CCT in Old Age Psychiatry or expected within 6 months
- Section 12(2) Approval and Approved Clinician Status (or eligibility)
- Experience with both functional and organic psychiatric conditions in older people
- A passion for collaborative, multidisciplinary care
