Introduce the job:
 An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a dedicated, multidisciplinary Eating Disorder Service delivering high-quality, evidence-based care across both Child & Adolescent and Adult Mental Health Services. The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping and leading the care of patients with complex eating disorders, while also influencing the future direction of this rapidly evolving service.

Main Duties:

  • Wards and settings: The role is community-based, located primarily at one centre, with close working links to inpatient units and community mental health teams.
  • Patient group: Children, adolescents, and adults with a range of eating disorders and co-existing mental health needs.
  • Team structure: You will work within a well-established MDT including a Clinical Lead, Occupational Therapist, Specialist Nurse Practitioner, Healthcare Support Workers, Community Mental Health Consultants, and allied professionals such as psychologists and social workers.
  • On-call rota: 1 in 20, non-residential with telephone advice and some out-of-hours assessments required.
  • Non-clinical work: Dedicated SPA time is allocated for research, teaching, supervision, audit, leadership, quality improvement, and continuing professional development. Teaching and leadership opportunities are actively encouraged.

The Hospital:
 The wider service is delivered across a well-integrated network of mental health facilities covering a population of approximately 390,000. The directorate offers Adult Mental Health, Older Adult Psychiatry, Substance Misuse, Forensic, and Rehabilitation Services. All consultants have access to excellent educational, administrative, and IT support, and benefit from collaboration across specialties.

 This opportunity is based in a vibrant region of South Wales, offering a mix of coastal and countryside living. The area features a well-connected public transport system, good motorway access, and proximity to larger cities such as Cardiff and Bristol. With a relatively low cost of living, excellent schools, and ample green space, it is a fantastic location for both individuals and families seeking a high quality of life.

Requirements:
 To apply for this position, you will need:

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register for Psychiatry (or within 6 months of achieving CCT)
  • Section 12(2) approval and eligibility for Approved Clinician status
  • Experience in general adult psychiatry, CAMHS, or eating disorder services
  • Commitment to team working, service development, and quality improvement
  • A strong track record of audit, CPD, and medical education (teaching qualification desirable)
