BDI Resourcing are working with a dynamic NHS Trust to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry. This post combines inpatient and crisis response responsibilities and plays a vital role in delivering evidence-based, person-centred mental health care to a local population of 62,000.
The successful candidate will work across a 26-bed adult mental health unit and the community-based Crisis Response Home Treatment Team. You'll be a key member of a supportive multidisciplinary team and a contributor to Trust-wide service modernisation.
Main Duties:
- Wards: Two inpatient wards (male and female) with integrated Psychiatric Intensive Care beds, plus responsibility for the Home Treatment Team.
- Patients: Adults aged 18–64 experiencing acute or enduring mental illness.
- Team: 1 Specialty Doctor, junior doctors, nursing staff, and allied professionals across inpatient and crisis settings.
- On-Call Rota: 1 in 10 rota for the northern sector (3% supplement), covering adult, old age, and intellectual disability psychiatry.
- Non-Clinical Time: 2.5 SPAs included for CPD, audit, research, and teaching. Opportunities exist for academic involvement with the local medical school.
The Hospital:
The post is based within a recently refurbished facility serving a rural and semi-urban catchment. The Trust provides inpatient and community mental health services and has developed specialist services including eating disorders, forensic psychiatry, alcohol and drug treatment, personality disorders, and psychological therapies. It spans multiple sites and collaborates with regional academic institutions.

This Consultant post is based in a scenic rural region of Northern England, known for its natural beauty, coastline, and historic market towns. Requirements:
To apply for this position, you will need:
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry (or within 6 months of CCT or CESR completion)
- Minimum of 7 years post-registration experience (5 years in psychiatry, including 3 in higher training)
- Section 12 and Approved Clinician status (or eligibility)
- A full UK driving licence (or reasonable transport alternative for those with disabilities)
