Consultant Psychiatrist - Enhanced Recovery Team

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Enhanced Recovery Team at a leading NHS Foundation Trust in the East of England. This newly created, community-based role is designed to provide clinical leadership and psychiatric expertise across Primary and Secondary Services. You will play a vital part in shaping integrated mental health care and improving outcomes for adult patients in the region.
Main Duties:
- The role is predominantly community-based, with liaison across three inpatient wards at the local hospital site: two acute adult wards and one older adult (functional and organic) ward.
- Adults aged 25–70 with complex and high-risk mental health conditions. The role also includes consultation and advice for patients aged 18+ in Primary Care.
- You’ll work alongside a diverse, multidisciplinary team that includes Clinical and Assistant Psychologists, Mental Health Practitioners, Link Workers, Peer Support Workers, Administrators, and GPs from two well-established Primary Care Networks.
- Category B rota (3% loading), currently 1:11 for adult and later life psychiatry. Most out-of-hours calls are managed by middle-grade doctors.
- Yes – 2.5 Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) sessions per week are allocated for CPD, audits, research, service development, teaching, and clinical supervision. There are teaching opportunities at a nearby university medical school and support for involvement in QI projects.
The Hospital:
The role is based at a community hospital site with access to three inpatient wards and an education centre. The Trust covers a wide catchment area and provides a full range of community and inpatient services including Crisis Resolution, Early Intervention, Memory Clinics, Specialist Dementia Teams, Learning Disability Services, and Substance Misuse Services.

The position is based in a well-connected and scenic part of the East of England, known for its strong sense of community, affordable living, and proximity to major urban centres. The region offers a family-friendly environment, excellent local schools, and easy access to airports and train lines, making travel both within the UK and internationally convenient. The area is popular with professionals relocating from the UK and abroad.
Requirements:
To apply for this position, you will need the following:
- Full registration with the GMC (with licence to practice)
- MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
- Eligible for the Specialist Register (or within 3 months of CCT)
- Section 12 and Approved Clinician status (or eligibility post-appointment)
- Relevant experience in adult psychiatry and multidisciplinary team working
- Desirable: Teaching or research experience, leadership roles, or experience in old age psychiatry
