Consultant Paediatrician with Special Interest in Neonates

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a large, dynamic paediatric department as a Consultant Paediatrician with a specialist interest in Neonates. The successful applicant will become part of an established, forward-thinking team providing acute and outpatient paediatric care, as well as neonatal services within a busy Level 2 Neonatal Unit.
The post offers the chance to develop your own clinical interests alongside a strong team of consultants who cover a wide range of paediatric subspecialties including neurology, endocrinology, respiratory medicine, allergy and cardiology. This role would suit a consultant seeking both professional growth and a balanced working environment within a supportive, well-resourced hospital.
Main Duties:
- Provide consultant-led care for general paediatrics and the neonatal unit
- Participate in the 1:8 neonatal and 1:8 paediatric on-call rota
- Deliver clinical supervision and leadership to middle-grade and junior doctors
- Lead or support a specialist interest area depending on experience (such as safeguarding, cardiology, or another relevant subspecialty)
- Attend ward rounds, multidisciplinary meetings and outpatient clinics
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit, and guideline development
- Support and engage in teaching for undergraduates, trainees, and nursing staff
- Participate in departmental management and service development activities
The Hospital:
The paediatric department provides a full range of inpatient, outpatient and emergency care to children and young people from birth to 16 years. Facilities include:
- A 20-bed paediatric ward, co-located with a dedicated Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU)
- A Level 2 Neonatal Unit with 16 cots (including intensive, high dependency and special care)
- A busy Children’s Emergency Department, with dedicated paediatric triage and resuscitation areas
- A paediatric outpatient department offering a broad range of specialist clinics including allergy, respiratory, diabetes, neurology, cardiology and gastroenterology
- Regular multidisciplinary and governance meetings, perinatal reviews, and structured teaching sessions
You’ll join a welcoming consultant team of over 15 paediatricians supported by a strong multidisciplinary network, dedicated nursing teams, and close links with tertiary centres for sub-specialty care.

Requirements:
To apply for this position, you will need the following:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Full GMC registration
- MRCPCH
- Specialist Registration in Paediatrics (or within six months of CCT)
- At least one year’s tertiary neonatal experience
- APLS, NLS and Level 3 Safeguarding training
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, audit and service improvement
