Consultant in Medical Oncology - Renal, Melanoma and CUP

This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Medical Oncologist to join a forward-thinking team, providing specialist care in renal, melanoma and carcinoma of unknown primary (CUP) cancers.
Role and Responsibilities
This 10.125 PA position is designed to strengthen the delivery of comprehensive care to patients diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma, melanoma and CUP. You will join a highly skilled multidisciplinary team comprising medical oncologists, clinical nurse specialists, registrars, and other support staff. Primary duties include:
- Outpatient clinics for new, follow-up and on-treatment patients with renal and melanoma cancers.
- Leading the CUP service, offering clinical guidance and systemic treatment planning.
- Inpatient ward rounds, systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) prescribing, and participation in site-specific MDTs.
- Working across two campuses, with your primary base at City Hospital and additional duties at a satellite clinic.
- Contributing to the supervision and training of junior doctors, including SPRs and ward residents.
- Engaging in clinical audit, service development and medical education.
- Participating in research activities and trials in collaboration with the University.

The oncology department provides non-surgical oncology services to a population of over one million, serving around 5,000 new patients annually. Facilities include:
- Four dedicated inpatient oncology wards.
- Specialist units including a Teenage and Young Adult Unit, a Same Day Emergency Care Unit and a 20-bed Cancer Admissions Unit.
- Outpatient therapy wards with over 40 SACT treatment chairs across main and satellite sites.
- A 24-hour emergency oncology service, supported by a Cancer Admission Triage Team.
- A large and collaborative oncology consultant team comprising medical and clinical oncologists, specialist nurses, and academic clinicians.
This hospital also boasts robust academic partnerships with the local university and supports a range of phase I–IV trials, providing a stimulating environment for research-focused clinicians.

The Requirements
Essential Criteria:
- Full GMC registration.
- Clinical experience and technical skills relevant to oncology care, particularly in melanoma, renal and CUP.
- Ability to lead, work effectively within a team, and communicate well with patients and professionals.
- Commitment to Trust values and behaviours, including flexibility and IT proficiency.
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit and experience teaching junior medical staff.
Desirable Criteria:
- Higher professional or academic qualifications.
- Formal training in communication, patient safety or human factors.
- Research publications or involvement in clinical trials.
- Experience in service development or change management.
- Qualification or formal training in education or leadership.
