- £105,504 to £139,882
- UK, South West
- Permanent
We are working with a forward-thinking healthcare provider in the South West to recruit a Consultant General Paediatrician. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive team, offering varied clinical work and opportunities to develop specialist interests within a cohesive paediatric department.
Role and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will become part of a dedicated team of Consultants and Associate Specialists. The post includes 10 programmed activities per week and participation in the non-resident on-call rota.
The role includes:
- Leading inpatient and outpatient paediatric care, as well as neonatal support
- Periodic participation in paediatric admissions, including some overnight and weekend on-calls.
- Participation in general and specialist outpatient clinics.
- Supervision and teaching of medical trainees at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- A wide scope for developing or enhancing sub-specialist interests in other areas, such as diabetes, including oncology or allergy, amongst others.
- Engagement in service improvement, clinical governance, teaching, research, and audit activities.
- Contribution to integrated care initiatives across physical and mental health services, as the department works closely with CAMHS.
The department values consultant-led care and is supported by a well-established team of middle-grade doctors and allied professionals. There are strong links to other tertiary centre and regular joint clinics are held with visiting sub-specialists.
The Hospital
This hospital benefits from significant government investment, enabling it to expand both its surgical and outpatient services. The Paediatric Department consists of an inpatient ward, dedicated children’s outpatient/day unit and Special Care Baby Unit.
The team is active in child safeguarding, with strong trust-wide support and peer review processes in place. The department is also involved in perinatal care. While intensive neonatal care is not provided on-site, there is excellent access to regional transfer services. The hospital has an excellent postgraduate education facility and is a recognised centre for undergraduate teaching through collaboration with a major medical school.
The Location
Located in the South West, the area offers an excellent quality of life. The town itself provides a welcoming community with good amenities and is surrounded by picturesque countryside. It's within easy reach of areas of outstanding natural beauty, offering superb opportunities for outdoor activities. Nearby towns and villages offer rural living, with affordable housing options and excellent schools - both state and independent. The nearest major cities are easily accessible and there are regular train services to London Paddington.
