We are working with a forward-thinking hospital team in South West Scotland to recruit a Consultant Physician in Diabetes & Endocrinology. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a modern, growing service with a strong focus on outpatient care and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Role and Responsibilities

This post is primarily outpatient-focused, with clinics in General Endocrinology, Diabetes, Young Adult and Transition services, Antenatal Diabetes, Technology, and Foot clinics. Outpatient activity is based at the main hospital with plans to rotate clinics to a nearby site.

Inpatient responsibilities include supervising an 8-bed Diabetes & Endocrinology Assessment Unit on a rotational basis. General medical duties include participation in a 1:7 weekend and 1:21 night on-call rota, with separate rotas for Cardiology and Nephrology.

The role also includes teaching, audit, governance, and service development. It is offered on a 10 PA contract (8 DCC, 2 SPA), with flexibility for part-time or job-share arrangements.

The Hospital

The main site is a 539-bed acute hospital with a second 320-bed hospital nearby. Both offer full diagnostic and acute services, with modern facilities The Diabetes & Endocrinology team is multidisciplinary, including consultants, nurses, dietitians, podiatrists and pharmacists. The department is actively expanding, with strong tertiary links to Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Based in a large town with excellent transport links to Glasgow and the surrounding region, this area offers a high quality of life. There’s easy access to coastlines, countryside, and outdoor activities, as well as affordable housing and highly regarded local schools - making it a popular area for families. 

The Requirements

Essential:

  • Full GMC registration and licence to practise
  • On the Specialist Register in Diabetes & Endocrinology (or within 6 months of CCT/CESR)
  • Accreditation in General Medicine
  • Experience in multidisciplinary team working
  • Skills in clinical governance, audit, and teaching

Desirable:

  • PGCert in Medical Education
  • Evidence of leadership or service development
