An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist to join a highly collaborative and forward-thinking department in one of the UK’s largest university hospital trusts. This full-time post offers access to modern facilities, an engaged multidisciplinary team, and a vibrant teaching and research environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality neurophysiological diagnostics and supporting service innovation.
The Job
The post holder will provide a comprehensive range of neurophysiological investigations, including nerve conduction studies (NCS), electromyography (EMG), electroencephalography (EEG), and evoked potentials. There will be an emphasis on supporting physiologist-led clinics, delivering advanced diagnostics, and contributing to multidisciplinary care pathways in collaboration with neurology, neurosurgery, and orthopaedic teams.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Supervision and training of clinical physiologists and junior doctors
- Involvement in quality improvement and audit activities
- Participation in service development and subspecialty innovation
- Contribution to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Supporting research in areas aligned with departmental goals
The post includes 8.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) PAs and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA), with flexibility and opportunities for further career progression.

The Requirements
Essential Criteria:
- Full GMC registration and inclusion on the Specialist Register in Clinical Neurophysiology (or eligible within six months of interview)
- Proven ability to independently perform and report EEG, NCS, EMG, and evoked potentials
- Demonstrated experience in clinical governance and audit
- Excellent communication and teamworking skills
- Commitment to education and ongoing professional development
Desirable Criteria:
- Higher academic degree (e.g. MD or PhD)
- Experience in neurophysiological subspecialties
- Research publications or involvement in ethical committee-approved studies
- Formal teaching qualifications or experience
