An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Haematologist, or an Associate Specialist, to join a large NHS Teaching Hospital in the North East. The Trust provides a comprehensive range of medical and surgical specialties, with regional and tertiary services. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery and development of both clinical and laboratory haematology across the organisation, working as part of a supportive and established consultant team. Subspecialty interests can be accommodated where possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality clinical and laboratory haematology services.
- Participate in inpatient and outpatient care, ward rounds, and MDTs.
- Contribute to the on-call rota (1:6.5).
- Provide leadership in a chosen area of subspecialty interest.
- Supervise and support junior medical staff, nursing staff, and laboratory colleagues.
- Actively engage in clinical audit, research, and governance.
- Take part in teaching and training of medical students, trainees, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in departmental management and service development.
Department & Facilities
- Comprehensive clinical service for haematological diseases, including autologous stem cell transplantation.
- Strong involvement in clinical trials and regional cancer network MDTs.
- Inpatient care delivered on a dedicated haematology ward supported by experienced nursing staff.
- Dedicated outpatient and day case facilities, including nurse-led services and outreach programmes.
- Integrated laboratory services across two sites, fully accredited, with advanced diagnostics and transfusion support.
- Close links with radiotherapy, oncology, and other tertiary specialties on site.
Person Specification
- GMC registration with licence to practise.
- MRCP and FRCPath (or equivalent).
- Broad experience in clinical and laboratory haematology, with evidence of subspecialty interest.
- Commitment to teaching, training, audit, and research.
- Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
- Experience with acute leukaemia care and in autologous stem cell transplant independently
