Job Summary

We are seeking to appoint a Consultant Medical Oncologist with a specialist interest in Colorectal cancers. The post-holder will join a dynamic, forward-thinking team of clinical and medical oncologists dedicated to delivering high-quality cancer care, expanding clinical trials, and supporting education and training. This is a 10 PA post with outreach responsibilities, requiring flexibility and the ability to travel to peripheral units – therefore, access to a car is essential.

The Cancer Centre

The Cancer Centre is a modern, well-equipped tertiary centre providing specialist care for a wide range of tumour sites. Facilities include a dedicated inpatient oncology/haematology ward, a chemotherapy day unit, radiotherapy services with advanced treatment planning and delivery systems, and a thriving clinical trials unit with a long-standing track record in national and international studies. The centre has close links with a local university medical school and offers excellent opportunities for teaching, training, and research.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive non-surgical oncology services for patients with colorectal cancers.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, and specialist nurses.
  • Contribute to the delivery of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) and radiotherapy planning.
  • Participate in regional outreach clinics and maintain strong links with peripheral hospitals.
  • Support the development of clinical research and contribute to ongoing trials.
  • Take part in the oncology on-call rota (non-resident).
  • Contribute to teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate learners.
  • Undertake audit, governance, and service development in line with departmental priorities.

Job Plan

This is a 10 PA job plan consisting of:

  • 8.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) sessions (clinics, MDTs, ward responsibilities, outreach clinics, on-call).
  • 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA), including CPD, appraisal, audit, and service development.

Person Specification

  • MRCP or PLAB
  • Pass in OET or IELTS
  • Prior Overseas Consultant Experience  
  • Sub-specialist interest in colorectal oncology.
  • Full driving licence and access to a car.
