We are working with a specialist mental health service in South West England that is seeking a Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to join their multidisciplinary CAMHS team. Role and Responsibilities

The postholder will provide clinical leadership and consultant-level psychiatric care within a well-established community CAMHS team. You will work with children and young people up to the age of 18 presenting with a range of complex mental health issues. As the consultant psychiatrist, you will be expected to provide assessments, formulate care plans, and deliver medical treatment in collaboration with colleagues across various disciplines.

The role is full time (10 PAs per week), with opportunities for flexible working where service needs allow. The job plan includes direct clinical care sessions, administration time, and opportunities for supporting professional activities such as teaching, supervision, and service development. Participation in the CAMHS consultant on-call rota is required, covering a wider regional footprint.

You will be expected to contribute to the strategic development of the service, support junior medical staff, and provide leadership to ensure high standards of care and safeguarding are maintained. Opportunities to develop specialist interests - such as neurodevelopmental disorders or liaison psychiatry - an be supported depending on service requirements and your own expertise.

The Trust you will be working with is a well-regarded provider of mental health services across a large geographical area in the South West of England. The CAMHS team is part of a comprehensive mental health service offering community and inpatient care, early intervention, crisis support and outreach. The CAMHS team benefits from close working links with paediatrics, education services and social care.

Facilities available include consultation rooms, access to therapy spaces, administrative support, and digital tools to support remote and hybrid working. The Requirements

To be eligible for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

Essential:

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register (or within six months of CCT at time of interview) in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry - Applicant must have submitted their Portfolio Pathway and be able to evidence this 
  • Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician status (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Significant experience in CAMHS, including the management of complex mental health needs in children and adolescents
  • Evidence of leadership and multidisciplinary team working
  • Excellent communication and clinical skills

Desirable:

  • Experience in quality improvement and service development
  • Teaching or supervision experience
  • Interest or expertise in a subspecialty area such as neurodevelopmental conditions or crisis intervention
