A renowned NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and motivated Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). This is a full-time, permanent position designed to support the growing demand for interventional services. The successful candidate will join a leading team in a high-volume tertiary setting, contributing to complex interventional care, primary PCI, and teaching.
Main Duties:
• What wards will they be spending their time in?
28 bedded ward including emergency admissions, and cardiology wards.
• What kind of patients will they be seeing?
Patients requiring elective and emergency PCI, complex coronary interventions, and general cardiology patients.
• What other colleagues are in the team?
A team of 12 interventional cardiologists, consultants with interests in devices and structural cardiology, cardiac nurses, clinical physiologists, and a robust support team.
• What is the on-call rota?
1:12 rota for primary PCI and tertiary cardiac referrals. On-call duties are limited during Consultant of the Week cover at Harlow.
• Is there time for non-clinical work?
Yes. 1.5 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week are allocated for Supporting Professional Activities, including CPD, audit, teaching, and research.
The Hospital:
This is a tertiary referral centre with state-of-the-art facilities including:
• 3 operating theatres (with a 4th hybrid theatre under development)
• 2 interventional catheter labs
• 1 EP/device lab (and a 4th in shell form)
• 32-bed cardiothoracic ward, 22-bed ITU/HDU, and 36-bed cardiology wards including CCU
• Active primary PCI programme (>500 cases/year), high-volume complex PCI and CTO service
• Weekly structural and TAVI lists
• Full non-invasive diagnostics, pacing, echocardiography, and ambulatory monitoring services

The area is a well-connected and diverse county in the East of England. The region offers a mix of urban and countryside living, and is ideal for families with excellent schools and amenities. There is a significant international community, with affordable living compared to London, and fast transport links into the capital (under 40 minutes by train) and to London Stansted Airport.
Requirements:
To apply for this position, you will need the following:
• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
• CCT in Cardiology (or within 6 months of attainment at interview)
• Broad training in general cardiology with proven experience in PCI
• Ability to manage a wide range of cardiac conditions independently
• Experience in audit, teaching, and evidence of research is desirable
• Higher degree (MD/PhD) is an advantage but not essential
