Job Title: Associate Specialist in Emergency Medicine
Salary Range: £70,091- £114,681
Location: Island territory within British Isles
Duration: Permanent, full-time

Introduction
 We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Associate Specialist in Emergency Medicine to join a well-established Emergency Department providing advanced, patient-centred care to a diverse population. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a consultant-led department with no trainees, ensuring direct patient care and a high standard of clinical delivery. The role offers protected time for professional development alongside varied clinical duties.

Main Duties:

  • Work across the Emergency Department, which functions as both an acute assessment unit and an emergency care centre.
  • Treat unfiltered emergency patients of all ages, managing the full range of presentations.
  • Collaborate with consultants, fellow associate specialists, and advanced nurse practitioners.
  • Participate in a 1:9 night rota (solo between 22:00–08:00) with consultant on-call, weekend working (1:3), and occasional additional on-call for sickness/absence cover.
  • Engage in non-clinical work, including audit, teaching, professional development, and patient-related administration, with one day a week protected for SPA activities.

The Hospital:

  • 12 wards, including 113 adult beds, 23 paediatric beds, and 8 CCU beds.
  • Emergency Department capacity for 9 patients.
  • Multiple specialties on-site and serving as the acute and emergency hub for the region.
  • Modernisation plans for a new ED footprint and short-stay ward in the next decade.
  • Utilises TRAK-CARE® PAS, transitioning to IMS MAXIM EPR system in late 2024.

Requirements:

  • Full GMC registration.
  • Proven experience delivering emergency medicine in the UK or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated capability for independent senior decision-making in EM.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary team working.
  • Commitment to CPD, clinical audit, and service improvement.
  • Teaching and education experience.
  • Willingness to participate in rota and on-call commitments.
  • Higher qualifications, clinical IT skills, and procedural sedation/ultrasound skills are desirable.
