Working as a specialty doctor in stroke medicine provides you with the opportunity to work in a hyper-acute stroke unit, aid patients through stroke rehabilitation, and be a vital part of the discharge team. The majority of patients seen by stroke doctors are elderly, so you will often work with other healthcare professionals like Geriatricians and Neurologists. This opportunity is well-suited for international doctors with a background in general medicine who have an interest in stroke medicine or neurology.

Main Duties:

  • Provide prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of stroke cases.
  • Take part in daily ward rounds in stroke wards.
  • Participate in outpatient clinics.
  • Participate in the on-call rota, as required.
  • Contribute to the teaching and education of junior doctors and medical students.
  • Complete medical audit.
  • Collaborate with neurologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists.
  • Participate in stroke research and clinical trials to advance knowledge and improve patient outcomes.

The Hospital:

The stroke department includes a neurovascular clinic, rehabilitation, supported discharge, and an acute geriatric service for elderly patients who have suffered acute cases of stroke. The acute stroke units across various sites within this Trust collectively boast more than 50 beds, dedicated to addressing both acute stroke cases and rehabilitation patients. The front door team at the hospital specialize in providing early input as soon as patients come in. Upon joining, you'll become part of a consultant-led team overseeing stroke thrombolysis, inpatient referrals, and ward rounds. This Trust offers excellent teaching prospects, with a commitment from the stroke department to consistently educate and mentor undergraduate and junior doctors. Additionally, the stroke department actively engages in diverse multicenter studies and research projects.
