Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine

The Trust is searching for doctors that excel in their roles and are looking to further their career in Emergency Medicine. A Specialty Doctor position is currently available where you will be expected to assist other Specialty Doctors in running the shop floor during night shifts whilst assisting your junior colleagues. As well as training and teaching sessions being provided, the offer provides protected SPA time for continuous professional development. This is a senior position within the emergency department and the successful applicant will be expected to have the skills required to take responsibility as the most senior resident doctor when the Emergency Medicine Consultant is non-resident and on call for emergencies. The post holder will be clinically and educationally responsible to the Consultants in Emergency Medicine.
Duties and Responsibilities
A job plan will be provided before joining the department
and this will be reviewed annually. The duties and responsibilities include:
- To see patients attending the Emergency Department, making primary diagnosis, and initiating emergency treatment. This will be at middle-grade level within the department.
- To provide sufficient information during handover to colleagues to ensure consistency of care
- Demonstrate, teach, supervise, and lead by example to Registrars and supervise Junior doctors within the department.
- To develop professionally and take part in all services development
- To participate in clinical and other service activities and developments with the aim of ensuring a high standard of patient care across the Trust.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, especially in relation to documentation
The Hospital and the Emergency department
The hospital emergency department, which has been rated as Good by the CQC is staffed by 10 consultants, 14 specialty doctors and multiple registrars as well junior doctors. The trust employs over 3,000 doctors (clinical and non-clinical) and is one of the largest trusts in the county. The hospital is an acute district general hospital, has 478 beds and an emergency department that is open 24 hours, 365 days a year. The trust is ranked in the top 5 out of 120 NHS trusts in England due to overall performance in important care targets.
Location
The hospital is based in the Southeast of England area near the coast where it has direct methods of access into the capital via the train or motorway systems. The surrounding area has schools that are rated as “outstanding” by the Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED). The surrounding area has multiple supermarkets, local leisure centres and multiple places of worship. The area is very multicultural and has a large population of international medical graduates.
Requirements
- 3 Years in Emergency Medicine
- ALS (Essential)
- OET or IELTS if you are applying from overseas
- ATLS (Desired)
- PALS (Desired)
