Are you an experienced internal medicine doctor looking to advance your career in the UK? We have recently been approached by an amazing Trust to help them find a Specialty Doctor to join their Acute Medicine team.
The department are interested in doctors who have a strong background in medicine, ideally they’d like somebody who is motivated to learn and develop their clinical skills further. This is a great option for a doctor coming from overseas for their first NHS role or for doctors already based in the UK who are looking to relocate or step up.
Main Duties:
- You will act as a vital part of the 10 person Specialty Doctor rota which provides 7 day cover to the acute medicine service. Which is split between the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and the High-Dependency Unit (HDU).
- You will be seeing patients who are coming to the hospital needing treatment for urgent medical conditions. You’ll see them from the moment of admission for initial treatment, after which they’ll be discharged or referred to the relevant department in the hospital. Patients will spend a maximum of 72 hours in Acute Medicine before either being discharged or transferred to another department.
- Participate in the Acute Medicine on call. This is currently a 1:9 but is subject to change.
- Take an active role in the teaching and training of junior doctors, nurses and undergraduates working at the hospital.
- There will be time allocated for study leave which you are expected to use to keep your clinical skills up to date.
The Hospital:
The position is based at a university teaching hospital which provides a wide range of services to the local community made up of 300,000 people. The department accepts referrals from ED, local GPs and Community Services resulting in approximately 40-50 referrals over a 24-hour period. The hospital is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC which notes the exceptional quality of care on offer to patients. Doctors here are encouraged to learn and develop their skills, there is ample opportunity for progression at this hospital. The hospital also provides a creche, gym, library and multiple catering services available to all that work there.
The location:
You’ll be based in the north west of England, close to cities like Manchester, Preston and Liverpool. It tends to attract a diverse group of people, you’re likely to meet many people from all kinds of backgrounds in the local community. The north west also benefits from some of the lowest renting costs in England so especially useful for those doctors who will be caring for large families.
Requirements:

- GMC registration complete or in process
- Strong background working in Medicine
- IELTS/OET complete
The following requirements are desirable but not essential:
- Full MRCP or equivalent (e.g. MRCPI)
- Previous NHS experience
