Doctors in Elderly Medicine specialize in taking care of older people. They focus on helping elderly patients with their unique health needs, like managing chronic illnesses, mobility problems, memory issues, and medications. Working in Elderly Care is a fantastic way for international doctors to join the NHS, as it provides great opportunities to utilize knowledge and experience from general internal medicine overseas and apply this to elderly patients in the UK. As a registrar, you will have the opportunity to work alongside highly experienced Consultants, whilst being able to independently manage junior doctors and progress further in your clinical career.
Main Duties:
- Contribute to training initiatives for junior doctors and other medical staffing.
- Participate in daily ward rounds.
- Provide high quality care for elderly patients, in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Participate in the on-call rota as required.
- Take part in multidisciplinary meetings, alongside consultants, specialists, nurses, and medical staffing.

The trust has multiple sites that run major acute services. The Elderly Care department at the Trust is a supportive and friendly environment for doctors to meet their educational goals and maintains high standards of medical care through regular clinical audits. The department includes a vast number of Consultants, Specialists, and junior doctors, who focus on the care of elderly patients. There are over 300 beds in the hospital for this post, and 57 acute elderly care beds in the Trust altogether. The sites have recently been remodeled post-COVID to include acute wards, an Acute Frailty Service for comprehensive geriatric assessment, and an Older Persons Rapid Assessment Clinic.
The location:
London is a great place to live because it offers a lot of exciting things to do. There are plenty of museums, parks, and famous landmarks like the Big Ben and Buckingham Palace to visit.
