We’re so excited to be shortlisting for a Specialist post based in the South West on a permanent contract, which will offer an overseas doctor a three-year Certificate of Sponsorship and Visa, as well as long-term job security. The post primarily covers Urology and Acute Oncology, and however there may be some flexibility here for the right doctor and applicants in Clinical Oncology will also be considered. You will be allocated a clinical and education supervisor who will help you wish continued professional development in Oncology. It’s a 10PA job plan with no out-of-hours commitments or on-calls which allows an excellent work-life balance. The following duties and responsibilities can be expected:

  • Clinically managing Urological cancers
  • Caring for outpatients at all cancer stages
  • Prescribing SACT
  • Planning and delivering radiotherapy if relevant
  • Providing senior oncology support in the Acute Oncology Unit
  • Contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Partaking in board rounds and clinical review
  • Partaking in quality improvement and audit projects
  • Supervising and teaching juniors/nurses/medical students
  • Managing patients within clinical trials participating in clinical trial projects
  • Supporting Professional Activities

Cancer Centre

This is a bespoke leading cancer centre which offers services to the local cancer network with a population of over 2 million. The centre is very well-staffed, with over 30 committed consultants in Oncology, and a team of junior and middle grade doctors. SACT services includes a purpose-built in-patient unit, out-patient clinics, and an acute oncology unit. The acute oncology services are supported by junior doctors and advanced nurse practitioners.

There is an advanced radiotherapy department which receives referrals from across the region. Some of the facilities it offers are 5 linear accelerators, 4-D CT/MRI based conformal radiotherapy, portal imaging, 2D kV and cone beam CT, and brachytherapy, Varian HDR GammaMed machine, molecular radiotherapy, and intra- and extra-cranial stereotactic radiosurgery. It is also a superregional centre for intracranial SRS and has a well-established SABR service.

The centre encourages clinical research and there are established links with the local Universities to develop and expand cancer research. The centre is also home to a clinical trials unit which is very active and employs dedicated nurses, co-ordinators, and radiographers. A forum for research meets regularly to review on-going clinical trials and new trials proposals.

Requirements

  • Full GMC Registration (or invitation to ID check) – essential
  • Minimum 12 years post-graduate experience and 6-years specialty specific experience in Oncology – essential
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent post-graduate medical qualification – desirable
