The Job

Are you a dedicated and experienced Anaesthetist looking for a rewarding career opportunity in a regional tertiary hospital? BDI Resourcing are seeking Staff Specialists in Anaesthesia to join a dynamic Anaesthesia Department in Queensland.

As a key member of the team, you will provide high-quality anaesthesia care across multiple surgical specialties, supervise trainees and junior medical staff, and contribute to education, research, and service development.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Functions

  • Provide specialist anaesthesia services for:
    ✅ Obstetrics & Gynaecology
    ✅ General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology
    ✅ Gastroenterology, Dental, and Investigative Services
  • Conduct Acute Pain Service rounds and Pre-Anaesthetic Assessment Clinics.
  • Participate in the on-call and weekend anaesthesia roster.
  • Deliver safe, evidence-based, patient-centred care.
  • Provide anaesthesia support to other Hospitals within the Health network as required.

Leadership & Management

  • Provide clinical leadership and mentoring for junior doctors and trainees.
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and risk management.
  • Assist in performance appraisals and development planning for junior staff.
  • Foster a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

Education & Research

  • Supervise and teach trainees, junior doctors, and medical students.
  • Lead education sessions and clinical training programs.
  • Engage in research and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) requirements.

Quality & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with hospital safety and risk management standards.
  • Participate in clinical governance and service improvement projects.
  • Contribute to audit, incident monitoring, and root cause analysis programs.

🏥 Four state-of-the-art operating theatres and two procedure rooms.
🛏️ An 8-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Salary & Benefits Package

✔ Base Salary: $210,332 - $266,677 p.a. (L18 - L27)
Total Package: Up to $528,432 p.a. (including allowances & superannuation)
Superannuation: 12.75% employer contribution
Professional Development Leave: 3.6 weeks p.a.
Professional Development Allowance: $21,500 p.a.
Motor Vehicle Allowance: Up to $25,500 p.a.

Requirements:

To apply for this role, you must have:
✔ MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
✔ Specialist Registration or eligibility for Specialist Registration with AHPRA.
✔ Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) or equivalent.
✔ Extensive experience in Anaesthesia, including perioperative care and acute pain management.
Strong leadership, teamwork, and teaching skills.


Requirements:

To apply for this position, you will need: Eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist, or eligibility via an overseas-trained specialist pathway either the expedited Specialist pathway or SIMG pathway. 

  1. Expedited Pathway (Ireland): Fellowship of the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland (or as previously named, the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland) (FCAI), together with a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training (CSCST). OR;
  2. Expedited Pathway (UK): Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCA), together with a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). OR;
  3. SIMG Pathway: ANZCA assessment outcome report 1 with partial or Substantial comparability.
