- North East
- Fixed
The team are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking individual to join their acute medicine team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to gain experience in a broad medical setting. Dealing with an unselected acute take means the post-holder will get to see cases from across acute internal medicine, therefore getting a good range of experience in medicine.
Main Duties:
- Acute Medicine Registrars play a crucial role in the day-to-day running of the AMU. The post-holder will report to the Consultants about patient care, as well as leading and managing junior doctors.
- You will be responsible for clerking patients, planning investigations and managing treatment plans. This is a largely inpatient role, but you will also have involvement in outpatient clinics.
- Clinical time is split between the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit, and attending to acute medical emergencies in the Emergency Department. The multidisciplinary nature of Acute Medicine will see you working closely with other departments, such as Emergency Medicine, GPs, as well as other General Medicine specialties such as Elderly Care, Cardiology etc.
The Hospital:
The Trust has a single main site for acute care, which has just under 1000 beds and is equipped with a full range of medical services. The Acute Medicine department falls within the Urgent and Emergency Care directorate. The hospital has a library, a well-equipped gym and a postgraduate research centre.
The department are invested in continued professional development and encourage their team to participate in audits, research and quality improvement. There are weekly departmental clinical meetings, monthly clinical governance meetings, and weekly teaching sessions for junior doctors.
The location:
The hospital is based in a city in the northeast of England. A sought-after location, it is one of the most multicultural cities in the north of England meaning it’s a great way for international doctors to settle into life in the UK. It is less than an hour and a half from an international airport so it’s easy to go and visit family and friends overseas. Being based in the north of England, the cost of living is low compared with much of the rest of the UK.
