As a registrar in general medicine, you will have the opportunity to develop your career in internal medicine and play a vital role in the general medicine team at the hospital. General medicine in the NHS is very similar to internal medicine overseas and allows you to treat unwell patients under many different medical specialties. This opportunity is perfect for experienced doctors who also have a special interest in Elderly Care, as you will also get the opportunity to aid frail patients, and see cases like dementia, delirium, Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s and many more.

Main Duties: 

  • Work alongside General Medicine consultants and multidisciplinary teams to provide high quality medical services.
  • Assessment of patients on daily ward rounds across General Medicine wards, as well as Elderly Care wards.
  • Work in outpatient clinics, covering several specialties such as neurology, elderly care, cardiology, and stroke, amongst others.
  • Participate in the general medicine registrar on-call rota as required, including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Currently a 1:10 rota.
  • Engage in the teaching and support of junior doctors, nurses, and medical staffing.
  • Complete research and clinical audit.
  • Contribute to clinical governance.

The Hospital:

This Trust is based on the outskirts of London, and the hospital site the position is based at is around 500 beds. The team is very welcoming of international doctors and provide a supportive environment for continuous career development. As this is a position in general medicine, you get the opportunity to treat patients across the breadth of internal medicine. This includes rehabilitation medicine, where you can participate in aiding patients with neurological and musculoskeletal disabilities. The acute stroke unit has over 30 beds and supports over 40% of the discharges in the Stroke Service. This is also covered by the Elderly Medicine team, who aid with patient pathways, and allows you to build strong relationships with colleagues in the acute, stroke, and neurology teams.

This county is generally regarded as one of the best to live in the UK, for its family-friendly environment and beautiful and peaceful towns to live in. With London just on your doorstep, you also get the benefit of vising the bustling capital on your days off. As the hospital is based on the outskirts of London, there is easy access to public transport, and the closest airport is less than an hour away. This means you can visit friends and family overseas, as well as explore other parts of the UK with ease. There are also a number of great schools, which is perfect for families with young children who are prioritizing a high standard of education.

Requirements:

To apply for this position, you will need the following:

  • Full MRCP. 
  • GMC with license to practice.
  • Wide range of experience in internal medicine.
