Registrar Acute Medicine

The team are looking for an individual with strong Acute Medicine skills, whether this comes from a background in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine or Intensive Care, or a combination. This is an excellent steppingstone for a doctor looking to do 12-18 months in a service role in the NHS to gain experience and sign off their core competencies, in order to step into a training role in a medical sub-specialty of their choosing.
Main Duties:
- The appointee will be expected to
assess and manage patients who present to the AMU, often a broad range of
unselected acute cases.

They will also be expected to
participate in the general / acute medicine Registrar on call rota. This is
currently run on a 1:8 frequency but the team are looking to move towards a
1:10 model.

- The individual will be working in
a team including Acute Medicine Consultants, fellow Acute Registrars, junior
doctors, nurses, and advanced care practitioners. They will also be working
alongside colleagues in sub-specialties such as Emergency Medicine, Cardiology,
Geriatrics, etc.
- The main bulk of the work will be spent in the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), the Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC), and the Medical Decisions Unit (MDU).
The Hospital:
The role is based in a university teaching hospital in the northeast of England. The team have good experience helping international doctors settle into the new healthcare system, so can offer an extensive and well thought through induction period to begin with. All Registrars are expected to spend their allocated non-clinical time in Continuing Professional Development projects, or in departmental improvement projects. Such projects are encouraged and supported.
The location:
The location is based in a city in the northeast of England. It has a population of around 350,000 people so has a nice, busy atmosphere without being crowded. There’s a wide range of amenities, such as international shops and markets, restaurants, and leisure activities like cinemas, parks, etc.
Requirements:

- Full MRCP (or equivalent, MRCP Ireland, Sri Lankan MD, etc.)
- OET / IELTS
- GMC registration
- 3 years of Registrar level experience in Medicine
