We’re currently shortlisting for an interview opportunity to join a bespoke leading cancer centre in the North East. The Cancer Centre is currently expanding and accepting applicants of Consultants in Clinical and Medical Oncology. The department has an excellent reputation for successfully onboarding overseas trained Oncology doctors and supporting with professional development via CESR pathway. It will be a 10PA job plan with some flexibility to accommodate individual interests and preferences, such as specific tumour sites, however the main subsite requirements are Breast and Urology. You can expect the following duties of the post

  • Join established multidisciplinary teams for relevant subsites
  • Planning Radiotherapy
  • Prescribing SACT
  • Conducting Ward Rounds
  • Contributing to site-specific Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings
  • Providing in Outpatient clinics for new and review patients
  • Protected time for patient related admin
  • Dedicated Supporting Professional Activities time, such as audit and research
  • Teaching and Training junior/undergrad/postgraduates

Cancer Centre

This is one of the UK’s largest and most successful Teaching Hospitals Trust with a bespoke Cancer Centre which has received a significant investment to expand and develop its’ services. Most of the outpatient facilities are based in the main cancer centre and the remaining outpatients are in off-site facilities. There is a purpose-built day case chemotherapy suite and inpatient wards. The centre offers a range of specialist and advanced radiotherapy care including

  • Stereotactic radiotherapy and radiosurgery
  • Varian Linear Accelerators
  • IMRT and VMAT (RapidArc)
  • Xstrahl superficial/orthovoltage radiotherapy machine
  • PDR Selectron
  • Virtual Simulators (spiral CT scanner)
  • Gamma knife
  • Facilities for the use of unsealed isotopes

The Clinical Trials Centre has a dedicated research time who manage a wide range of clinical trials. They have close links with the local University and the Consultants are encouraged to engage with research projects.

The Requirements

  • Full GMC Registration (essential)
  • Ability to work independently at consultant level within Oncology (essential)
  • Full MRCP (UK), FRCR (UK) or equivalent post-graduate qualification (desirable)
