A leading tertiary referral centre is looking to add an NHS Locum Consultant in Clinical Oncology to join their expanding Breast and Upper GI multidisciplinary teams to provide specialist clinical care to the centre’s surrounding population. The applicant will be invited to join the Breast and Upper GI clinical trials team to strengthen their trials and research portfolio. The Clinical Lead will assess applications from individuals wishing to consider other tumour site requirements, however applicants wishing to above the above tumour sites will take precedent. Individuals working towards GMC Specialist Registration via the CESR pathway will receive guidance and support to sign off competencies for their portfolio and the Department have individuals in post that have already completed this pathway. It will be a standard 10PA You can expect the following duties:
- Independently prescribing and managing patients for Breast and Upper GI
- Planning RT and prescribing SACT
- Participating in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and in CPD
- Attending relevant MDTs as senior contributor
- Participating in peer review and QA meetings
- Engaging with the recruitment and running of clinical trials
- Providing telephonic advice in on-call rota
- Supporting professional activities (SPA) and Continuing Professional Development

Cancer Centre
The Trust is home to a regional referral specialist cancer centre with a core population of 1.3 million and an extended catchment of 2-to-4 million for rare tumours. The cancer centre is linked to one of the highest performing UK universities and has a very strong research base and extensive clinical trials portfolio. You will be working alongside a friendly team of medical and clinical oncologists, surgeons, radiotherapy physics, clinical nurse specialists and the cancer services management. The Department have 33 Adult inpatient beds for Oncology patients, the Trist have a national Teenage Young Adult Unit and The Cancer Assessment Unit (CAU) has 9 additional beds. There is a dedicated Oncology Out-patient Suite, as well as the Oncology Day Unit, which has 2 beds 15 chairs with additional Outreach clinics. The radiotherapy facilities include:
- Elekta synergy linear accelerators.
- 2 Varian True Beams (one with Novalis ExacTrac) 2 Canon Aquilion large bore CT scanners.
- 2 Radixact Tomotherapy machines
- 1 Xstrahl
- 1 HDR unit
The Requirements
- Full GMC Registration (or invitation to GMC ID check) – essential
- Full MRCP (UK) or FRCR (UK) or equivalent post-graduate qualification – essential
- Ability to work independently at consultant level within Clinical Oncology
