NHS Consultant in Urology – Interest in Robotic Pelvic Oncology

1922
  • £93,666 - £126,281
  • East Midlands
  • Fixed

A beautiful part of the country, an expanding and exceeding department. This role, for someone with experience in Robotics, is a brilliant opportunity for someone to get further experience for 12 months, with the possibility of extension. This role still carries variation, with the ability to pick up general Urology work. However, it is first and foremost a robotics role, with the postholder’s focus firmly on a mixture of robotic prostatectomy work on the Da Vinci Xi at one hospital with the option to perform robotic radical prostatectomy/specialist clinics at the another, as the Trust works with other Trusts in the area to deliver cancer care to this region of the country.

The main expectations and duties of the job plan will be as follows:

  • The post is to bolster subspecialty management of pelvic cancer for the patients in the region.
  • The successful applicant will be required to develop close working links with the clinical and medical oncology teams and participate in weekly specialist pelvic cancer MDT meetings.
  • Contribute positively to the team and promote a culture of collaborative working with colleagues across the Partnership to optimise patient safety.
  • Ensure clinical guidelines and protocols are adhered to by junior medical staff and updated on a regular basis.
  • Keep fully informed about best practice in the specialty/sub-specialty areas and ensure implications for practice changes are discussed with the Clinical Director.
  • To role model good practice for infection control to all members of the multidisciplinary team.

Key details

  • Contract: Fixed Term

The Trust’s Urology Service

The successful applicant will join the current team of seven consultants in a 1:7 on call rota with a fully staffed middle grade rota. The department is busy and provides a full complement of general urological services including Greenlight laser prostatectomy, holmium enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP), bipolar TURP, as well as subspecialist surgery including radical prostatectomy, robotic pyeloplasty and renal surgery including nephroureterectomy, mini/supine PCNL, flexible ureterorenoscopy. We support the National Spinal Injuries Centre, and many of these patients have complex endourological treatment requirements.

Location

Named the 3rd best place to live in the UK in 2023, this beautiful part of the country boasts some of the best grammar schools going, as well as great transport links and is a picturesque place to live. It is highly sought after because of these factors, as well as proximity to London. It is also near Eton, the countries’ most famous Private School.

If you like the outdoors, you won’t be disappointed. Brilliant for Equestrian pursuits, Hill walks and Chalk caves. Like a museum? You’re in the right place. If you’re looking for a laidback pace of life, this Trust is for you.

Requirements

  • GMC Registration with License to Practice (essential)
  • Ability to practice independently at Consultant level (essential)
  • MRCS at a minimum, with FRCS/FEBU and Specialist Registration being highly desirable
  • Training in Robotic Pelvic Oncology, ideally Fellowship
