We are working with an established NHS Foundation Trust looking for a skilled and dedicated Locum Respiratory Consultant to join their team. Role and Responsibilities
As a Locum Respiratory Consultant, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients with a range of respiratory conditions. Your role will involve working alongside a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality inpatient and outpatient services.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Leading outpatient clinics and providing care for patients with chronic respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, and interstitial lung disease.
- Conducting inpatient ward rounds and providing consultation for patients with respiratory issues admitted to the hospital.
- Performing diagnostic procedures, such as bronchoscopy and pulmonary function testing, to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases.
- Collaborating with other medical specialties to manage complex cases that require multidisciplinary input.
- Supervising junior doctors, medical students, and other healthcare professionals, providing education, training, and support as needed.
- Participating in the department’s on-call rota to provide emergency respiratory care and support to the hospital out of hours.
- Engaging in clinical audits and quality improvement projects to ensure the department continuously strives for the highest standards of patient care.
- Contributing to the development of clinical protocols, care pathways, and departmental guidelines to improve patient outcomes and service delivery.
- Potential for involvement in research and clinical trials in respiratory medicine, as well as teaching opportunities for medical students and junior doctors.
The role will be based in a busy department with a strong focus on collaboration across specialisms. You will be supported by a dedicated team of healthcare professionals, ensuring that patient care remains at the forefront of all activities. The working hours will include participation in a rota system for on-call shifts, which ensures that there is always respiratory care available to those who need it.

The Requirements
To be considered for this position, the following qualifications and experience are required:
Essential Criteria:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification, MRCP (UK) or equivalent
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Undertaken programme of training acceptable to the Royal College of Physicians for appointment to Consultant Status
- Entry on the Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within six months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights
- Evidence of specific training in Respiratory Medicine
- Able to take responsibility for delivering the service without direct supervision
Desirable Criteria:
- Appropriate higher degree (MD or PHD)
