This is a great opportunity based in the West Midlands for a Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to join an expanding and dynamic team. You will be joining an evolving, clinically-led, acute service provider that prioritises high quality, safe and responsive health services for its patients.  

Role and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work one session a week as an Acute Medicine Physician. Key responsibilities include:

  • Clinical Leadership: Providing expert clinical care in respiratory medicine, including the development and implementation of pathways for conditions such as pleural effusions and suspected pulmonary embolism.
  • Service Development: Contributing to the expansion of Ambulatory Pleural Services within the Respiratory Department and the Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU).
  • Acute Medicine Support: Allocating one session per week to serve as an Acute Medicine Physician, offering in-reach services to the Acute Medicine Unit to ensure timely review of patients with respiratory conditions.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Working closely with a team of consultants, specialty trainees, and specialist nurses to deliver comprehensive patient care.
  • Teaching and Mentorship: Engaging in the education and training of junior doctors and medical students, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.

The Requirements

    • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
    • Entry on the  GMC Specialist Register in Respiratory Medicine or eligibility for inclusion within six months of the interview date
    • MRCP membership or equivalent
    • Comprehensive training and experience in adult respiratory medicine
    • Commitment to teaching and education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, experience in leading clinical groups
    • Experience in bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), and thoracoscopy
    • A track record of completed and published research
