You are invited to apply for the role of Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine within an acute hospital setting. This is a fantastic opportunity to support the increased workload, expansion and development of the hospital’s Respiratory Department. You will be joining a multi-disciplinary team, supporting a high quality, clinically effective respiratory service across inpatient and elective pathways.

Role and Responsibilities

This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the delivery of respiratory care, working in a supportive department. Successful applicants will also be given dedicated time within their job plans to pursue their sub specialty interest.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical care for respiratory conditions across inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ensure the highest clinical standards are maintained in the management of all patients presenting to the hospital, including facilitating safe and timely discharges and supporting patient flow
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Respiratory Department to manage all adult patients referred to the Trust with respiratory disorders. While this is a dedicated Respiratory Medicine role, applicants may discuss the possibility of contributing to the general medical rota during the interview
  • Actively engage in departmental and Trust-wide initiatives related to Clinical Governance and audits
  • Participate in continuing professional development (CPD)

The Requirements

Essential criteria:

  • GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • MBBS, MRCP or equivalent
  • Experience of DGH work
  • Experience in mentoring junior doctors and working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • A commitment to high standards of patient care and clinical governance
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage well with patients and colleagues

Desirable criteria:

  • Entry of the GMC Specialist Register via CCT, or within six months of receipt of CCT at time of interview or CESR (must be on Specialist Register at time of applying)
  • A specialist interest in a sub-area of respiratory medicine, such as sleep medicine, pulmonary hypertension, or cystic fibrosis.
  • Clinical research experience
