Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing respiratory department with supportive colleagues. Role and Responsibilities
This is a full-time role, and while the primary focus is on respiratory medicine, applicants can discuss the possibility of contributing to the general medical rota during the interview process if desired. This role involves both inpatient and outpatient care, with responsibilities ranging from clinical assessments and diagnosis to developing individualised treatment plans.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions, including the provision of both inpatient and outpatient care
- Leading and contributing to multidisciplinary team discussions and ward rounds
- Offering expert advice on complex respiratory cases, while maintaining a patient-centred approach to care
- Participation in the department's on-call rota, providing support for emergency respiratory care
- Contributing to clinical audits, service development, and quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes
- Supervision and teaching of junior medical staff, including medical trainees, junior doctors, and respiratory care staff, helping to foster a culture of continuous learning
- Opportunities to develop a specialist interest within respiratory medicine, with support for clinical research and innovation within the department
- Possibility of cross-site work, as needed

The Requirements
Essential criteria:
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Royal College of Physicians membership or equivalent
- Completion of Specialist Training in Respiratory Medicine (CCT) or within 6 months of achieving CCT at the time of interview
- Experience with independently leading clinical care of patients
- Experience in teaching and mentoring junior doctors and other healthcare staff
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues, patients, and external stakeholders
- A commitment to continuous professional development, experience in medical audits and Clinical Governance
Desirable criteria:
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register
- A special interest in sleep medicine, asthma or pleural diseases, other specialist interests are also welcomes and supported
- Experience in clinical research, with an interest in contributing to research projects within the respiratory medicine department
