Role and Responsibilities
As a Locum Consultant Obstetrics & Gynaecology, you will have the responsibility for consultant-led obstetric and gynaecological services, ensuring quality care and leadership across various wards and clinics. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and supervising day-to-day management of labour, maternity, and gynaecology wards.
- Conducting two labour ward rounds and one maternity ward round daily.
- Performing elective caesarean sections and managing emergency gynaecological cases.
- Training and mentoring junior staff, including doctors, nurses, and medical students.
- Ensuring compliance with clinical standards and risk management practices.
- Working with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective care pathways.
- Participating in audits, clinical governance, and continuous improvement activities.
You will work a fixed rota system, with a 1 in 9 hot week (8:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday to Friday) and on-call duties, ensuring flexibility to cover necessary shifts and duties. This role offers opportunities for special interests in areas like urogynaecology, colposcopy, and outpatient hysteroscopy.

The Requirements
Essential:
- Full registration with the GMC and a license to practice.
- Experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at a consultant level.
- Proven leadership and team-working skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to educate and mentor junior staff.
- Commitment to continuing professional development (CPD).
Desirable:
- Special interests in urogynaecology, colposcopy, or hysteroscopy.
- Experience in clinical governance, including audits and incident investigations.
