This opportunity is for an NHS Locum Consultant in Medical Oncology with a specialist interest in Breast and gynaecological malignancies to join an expanding consultant team in a leading NHS University Hospital NHS Trust. Considerations will be given to individual applicants who would prefer to pursue different interests in Oncology. You will work in conjunction with the other Consultant colleagues and multidisciplinary teams across the Trust and be supported by 4 Specialty Doctors in Oncology, 2 Acute Clinical Practitioners, 2 Specialty Trainees along with 4 Clinical Nurse Specialists. The Department are committed to the professional development of their Oncologists and are also committed to support Oncologists in their first senior role post-training, alongside individuals pursuing Specialist Registration via the CESR pathway. This will be a standard 10PA job plan with infrequent on-call commitments. You can expect the following duties:

  • Actively contributing to MDTs as key member for assigned tumour sites
  • Participate in the management of the Medical Oncology service
  • Participating in the management Acute Oncology Service
  • Leading patient and follow up outpatient clinics
  • Undertaking further medical education at a postgraduate level
  • Carry out teaching duties as required and take an active part in the Postgraduate Medical Education programme and in the teaching of junior medical staff. To be involved in the education of nursing staff, General Practitioners and other clinical professions. To attend regularly department meetings
  • Actively recruitment patients to clinical and commercial trials
  • Supporting and training junior colleagues
  • Actively contributing to bed-side and undergraduate teaching, if of interest

Hospital

The cancer services for the Trust are based in a modern 600+ bed acute hospital, which houses an In-Patient Oncology Ward, Outpatients, SACT Treatment Units, Radiotherapy facilities, a full-range of specialist diagnostic equipment, alongside 2 Day Units.

The Requirements

  • Full GMC Registration or invitation to ID check (essential)
  • Ability to practice independently within the Oncology team (essential)
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent post-graduate medical qualification (desirable)
  • MRCP SCE (Medical Oncology) or equivalent qualification (desirable)
