This is a fixed-term Consultant in Oncology opportunity in a University Hospital based in London. You will be specialising ideally in Breast/Lung Oncology however the secondary tumour site is flexible and to be discussed in the interview. You will join a well-established multidisciplinary Oncology team and have opportunities to expand and develop research projects. It will be a standard 10PA job plan with a mix of clinical activity, emergency work, audit, teaching, and research. You can expect the following duties in the timetable

  • Planning radiotherapy including SABR
  • Prescribing SACT
  • Attending weekly relevant MDT meetings
  • Attending out-patient new patient and follow up clinics
  • Contributing to the Acute Oncology Service
  • Contributing to clinical governance and developing quality assurance projects
  • Organising and developing research interests
  • Teaching and training medical trainees

Cancer Centre

The role is a based in University Hospital NHS Trust serving a large, multicultural population. The Cancer Centre is in a major acute hospital offering several tertiary services and advanced facilities. The Centre values learning and development and offers a structures induction and training programme to ensure continued professional and educational development. The Oncology department has successfully run hundreds of clinical trials and there are active research facilities. You’ll be based in the main Hospital site, however there may be some cross-site working. The Oncology department in the main site provides a Chemotherapy Treatment Unit and Inpatient ward which is very well-staffed. The Radiotherapy department offers the following facilities

  • IMRT and IGRT
  • Varian Truebeam with Rapidarc and Con Beam CT capabikities
  • Xstrahl superficial radiotherapy unit
  • Simulator Varian Acuity
  • CT Simulator Philips Big Bore
  • Eclipse virtual simulation and planning
  • LINACS

Location

  • The Trust is in a very multicultural part of London, with a friendly and diverse community and an array of religious amenities
  • You have access to all London has to offer, with plenty of shopping, leisure and places to eat and drink
  • It’s possible to live outside of London and there are regular transport links to the Trust so it is easily commutable. There are also major international airports for easy international travel
  • There are top-rated schools and universities nearby

The Requirements

  • Full GMC Registration, or invitation to ID check (essential)
  • Ability to work independently at Consultant level in Oncology (essential)
  • Full MRCP (UK), FRCR (UK) or equivalent post-graduate qualification (desirable)
