This is an opportunity to join a large, advanced cancer centre in Wales. You will be working in a multidisciplinary team and MDTs are established in all common cancer centres and meet weekly. There will be a full induction to ensure you’re full settled in post and if this is your first NHS Oncologist role, you’ll receive the adequate training and support to practice Oncology independently as an NHS Consultant. The oncology team are going through an expansion and the tumour subsites are flexible, so you will have the chance to incorporate your specialty interests into the job plan. If you’re more interested in radiotherapy, the department can offer a RT heavy job plan. It’s a 10PA (40 hours p/w) job plan, with the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Work in relevant multidisciplinary teams for managing patients
  • Planning, prescribing and supervising radiotherapy treatment
  • Peer reviewing radiotherapy
  • Prescribing SACT for outpatients
  • Providing ward rounds for inpatients
  • Attending appropriate MDT meetings
  • Partaking in audit and development patient protocols
  • Partaking in senior on-call rota, out-of-hours phone advice
  • Supporting professional activities, such as clinical governance
  • Teaching and training juniors/undergraduates/postgraduates
  • Participating in research activities

Cancer Centre

The Health Board is the largest health organisation in Wales and services several counties in the region. This is an opportunity to join a purpose-built cancer centre which includes an in-patient ward, a day SACT unit, outpatient department and radiotherapy facilities. The Oncologists work alongside advanced nurse practitioners, radiographers, physicists, electronics, mechanical technicians, and dosimetrists. There’s a well-supported research facilities and you’ll be encouraged to collaborate and develop research ideas and submit journals. There are also active clinical trials you’ll be expected to recruit and manage. The radiotherapy department has

  • 4 Varian Linear Accelerators (Truebeam and Varian)
  • Gulmay Orthovoltage Unit
  • CT Planning Scanner
  • Prosoma
  • Eclipse Treatment Planning System
  • Canon CT planning
  • Surface Guided radiotherapy
  • IMRT techniques
  • 4DCT
  • SABR for lung

  • This is one of the most beautiful areas to live in the UK, with outstanding countryside, beaches, national marks, castles, stately homes, and gardens.
  • There are shopping centres so there’s close access to all the amenities you need and local markets and independent stores
  • There are direct rail and road links to neighbouring cities in England as well as across the UK

Requirements

  • Full GMC Registration (or invitation to ID check) – essential
  • Ability to practice independently in Clinical Oncology – essential
  • FRCR (UK) or equivalent post-graduate medical qualification – desirable
