Location – East of England
Duration – Permanent, Full-Time
An exciting opportunity has arisen at a prominent NHS trust in the East of England for a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery with fellowship training in knee and revision knee surgery. This role is designed to support the Trust’s increasing trauma arthroplasty activity and reduce waiting list backlogs while contributing to an expert-led, collaborative team.
Main Duties
• Wards – You will work across both inpatient and day-case units, which features clean-air laminar flow theatres and a dedicated 21-bed ward.
• Patients – The successful candidate will manage patients requiring primary and revision knee arthroplasty, and be actively involved in managing a high volume of general trauma cases.
• Team – Join a thriving department of 36 Orthopaedic Consultants with expertise across all major subspecialties, supported by registrars, fellows, nurse practitioners, surgical practitioners, pharmacists, and a strong management team.
• On-call rota – 1:18 with a 6-weekly cycle. Consultants work in groups of three to focus exclusively on trauma during their on-call week, with no elective commitments during this time.
• Non-clinical work – Dedicated SPA time is provided for appraisals, CPD, audit, research and teaching. There are extensive opportunities to contribute to postgraduate education, national FRCS (Orth) courses, and departmental research aligned with the UEA and Quadram Institute.
The Hospital
This is one of the busiest teaching hospitals in the UK with over 1,200 beds, offering secondary and tertiary care across a broad range of specialties including major trauma, cancer services, and neonatal care. It operates across two sites: the main hospital outpatient centre with day-case services. The Trust is a regional centre of excellence for research, education, and innovation.
The Location
Located in a vibrant, historic city in Norfolk offering an outstanding quality of life. A mid-sized city with a rich cultural scene, top schools, and a growing international community. Housing is more affordable than in many other UK cities, and transport links are excellent—with easy access to London (under 2 hours by train), and nearby cities like Cambridge. The area is also highly family-friendly, with green spaces, coastal towns, and national parks within easy reach.

To apply for this position, you will need the following:
• Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
• Inclusion (or eligibility within 3 months) on the GMC Specialist Register in T&O
• FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent
• Fellowship-level training and operative experience in knee and revision knee surgery
