 We are delighted to offer an exciting new opportunity for a Consultant in Maternal & Fetal Medicine at a large, well-respected NHS teaching hospital in the East of England. This newly created post is designed to meet the increasing clinical workload and provides an excellent platform for clinical leadership, academic involvement, and multidisciplinary collaboration. It is ideally suited to a consultant with RCOG-certified subspecialty training in Maternal & Fetal Medicine.

Main Duties
• Wards: Work across the main maternity unit, antenatal clinic, fetal medicine centre, and inpatient wards.
• Patients: Care for women with complex maternal medical conditions, fetal anomalies, and those requiring specialist antenatal and intrapartum management.
• Team: Join 12 consultant obstetricians, alongside specialist midwives, SITM/subspecialty trainees, fellows, foundation doctors, and a multidisciplinary support network.
• On-call rota: Includes 1:3 intrapartum care shifts and 1:12 out-of-hours cover. Resident consultant cover is provided for 90 hours per week.
Non-clinical time: Yes – includes dedicated time for guideline development, education, audit, and collaborative research with a local university partner.

 This is a 1,200-bed tertiary teaching hospital with a full range of specialist services and over 5,700 births annually. It also has an associated district general hospital offering outpatient and day-case services. The Trust is highly active in clinical research and innovation, with cutting-edge facilities and strong academic affiliations.

Requirements

Essential
 
Medical degree with Full GMC Registration and license to practice
 MRCOG and appropriate specialist registration
 Relevant CCT or CESR and be on specialist register (confirmed by GMC by date of AAC) within 6 months of CCT
 ATSM Labour ward/equivalent experience
ATSM in maternal medicine /equivalent experience
 
Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council
 Clinical training and experience in General Obstetrics and Gynaecology to that required for a UK CCST
 Ability to take responsibility and offer expert clinical opinion in a range of emergency problems within the specialty


Desirable
 
Registration of RCOG CPD programme
 MD, PhD or evidence of equivalent training an experience.
