Are you interested in joining a lead tertiary centre in a stunning area of the South West of the UK as a Consultant in Oncology? The well-established multidisciplinary team is currently expanding the senior Oncology workforce and there’s flexibility to join your subsite preferences. The main areas the team are expanding are Urology, Breast, Lung and H&N, so applicants with an interest in these areas will be preferred. Applicants specialising in Medical Oncology will also be considered. Most cancer sites are covered by more than one consultant so there’s time to maintain a balanced job plan and protected hours for personal and professional development. This is open to doctors who hope to practice on a consultant contract however do not have full Specialist Registration, and support will be given with professional development via CESR/Portfolio Pathway by a one-to-one mentor and relevant Clinical Lead. It is a full-time 10PA (40 hours p/w) position with the following expectations:

  • Managing own site-specific patient lists with support from administrative and operational teams
  • Planning Radiotherapy
  • Prescribing SACT
  • Undertaking inpatient ward rounds
  • Contributing to site specific Multi- Disciplinary Team meetings
  • Supporting junior medical staff with training and teaching undergraduates/postgraduates
  • Managing New Patient and Follow Up Clinics
  • Actively supporting research and clinical trials
  • Participating in acute oncology service round on a rota (infrequent)
  • Supporting Professional Activities
  • Continuing Professional Development and Medical Education

Cancer Centre

The Centre has custom-built Oncology has 28 inpatient beds and attached to the assessment area for Acute Oncology Service. The Chemotherapy Day Case Unit has 24 treatment chairs and is close to outpatient and radiotherapy department. The radiotherapy department is well-equipped with Varian Truebeam and Varian Edge LINACS with IMRT and IGRT, Wide-bore CT scanner with 4DCT and surface-guided radiotherapy. There is also SRS/Radiosurgery and SABR.

The Centre is home to most active research centre in the Peninsula and the Oncology Research department is well-staffed by nurses, data managers and physicians. Consultants and Registrars have dedicated time for research within the job plan and you’ll be encouraged to participate with clinical trials and use dedicated time to support individual research interests. The centre is closely connected to Peninsula Medical School and they collaborate for undergraduate education. Consultant will be expected to partake in supporting junior doctors and teaching.

Requirements

  • GMC Registration (essential)
  • Ability to practice independently at Consultant level in Oncology (essential)
  • Full MRCP, FRCR or equivalent postgraduate qualification (desirable)
