Consultant Elderly Medicine

This well-reputed Trust are looking for a new Consultant in Elderly Medicine to join their wonderful, supportive team as part of plans to grow the Frailty/Elderly Unit. The hospital serves a local population with a high degree of frailty, this role has been created due to recent plans to develop the hospital as a regional centre for Geriatric medicine.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to pursue any sub-specialty interests within Medicine as part of their own development.

Main Duties:

You will be required to make senior decisions and review patients who come through the front door.

You will help contribute the development of Same Day Emergency Care and cover the Acute Medical Unit. Some of the main duties will also include:

• Liaise with the Emergency Department to make sure an outstanding service is provided for patients.
• To actively be involved in Audits and Quality improvement.
• As a senior member of staff, you will be required to provide teaching and guidance to Junior Doctors.
• Participate in Research projects.
• Yearly appraisal meetings with the team.
• Work closely with the Emergency Department to make sure there is constant communication.

The Hospital:

The hospital has just over 600 beds is the main site within the Trust. Geriatrics is part of the Medicine Division so you’ll work closely with colleagues across a wide range of medical sub-specialties including Acute Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Stroke, Neurology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, etc. There are also close links with GPs and community colleagues to ensure effective patient discharge and follow up.

• Good access to Birmingham International airport for when you want to visit family and friends overseas. 

Requirements:

In order to apply for this role you will need:

• Full MRCP
• IELTS or OET
• GMC Registration complete or in process
• Previous Consultant experience working with elderly patients, or Specialist/Registrar experience and looking to step up
